We have been taught by the generations that time is the wisest of all teachers. An open mind, coupled with patience, is the most fertile of educational environments. This recognition is as true in the realm of religion and spirituality as it is for applied sciences and liberal arts. It is therefore neither a conflict of doctrine nor a blasphemy of dogma to find new meaning in old traditions. Such is the horizon being presented to our generation by the emergence of "eco-kashrut" considerations and the emerging awareness of parallel commons shared by authentic righteousness and environmental concern.
There is an explicit mandate in the Torah to establish encampments of holiness. Holiness has been the dual and concurrent pursuits governing the bonds between people and the relationship between man and Heaven. Twenty-first century Judaism is ready to join the growing chorus of voices that are advocating the inclusion of third tract towards spiritual perfection, that being an incorporation of awareness about the wellbeing of the planet and all life that shares in the garden called "aretz".
EarthKosher is a welcome entry to the arena of kosher certification & Orthodox rabbinic supervision . Rabbi Goldman's bold initiative will not supplant any current kashrut endorsements. It will enhance the ability of consumers and commercial industry to create a partnership of purpose and vision.
